6 Praça Frei Gonçalo Velho Viana do Castelo

Museological Nucleus of the Igreja das Almas

Opening hours: Monday to Friday, from 09:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

As a result of the archaeological intervention carried out in the Igreja das Almas, the first main church of Viana do Castelo, it was decided to musealize the area corresponding to the main chapel, so as to allow the visualization of the archaeological structures that were exposed, as well as the walls that define the plant of the Romanesque temple in which the cracks in the North and South walls are still preserved.

In the sacristy of the temple there is also a small museum nucleus where it is possible to observe the archaeological findings exhumed during the excavations carried out during the year 2008.
